Women’s History Month: The Herstory We Make in the Small Moments

March is Women’s History Month, it's a good time to honor remember the women who came before us, and those who daily enrich our lives. Whether it’s a friend who always listens, a daughter finding her way, or a daughter-in-law who feels like family, a thoughtful gift can say what words sometimes can’t.

History isn’t always made on a stage. Sometimes it’s made in the quiet moments of perseverance.

I’ve been thinking a lot about my mom, who passed away this past July at 98. At 17, during World War II, she became a “government girl” in Washington, D.C. She worked in the fingerprint department at the FBI, (my mom worked for the FBI is my favorite 2 truths and a lie) and after a year of long hours, she earned enough to pay for four years of college. No spotlight. No applause. Just grit.

She was also my biggest fan, even if her support sometimes showed up as a text message that made no sense, but always filled with heart emojis. I miss those texts. I am carrying on the tradition with my kids, sending messages that make them think I’m a little crazy but lots of heart.

In 2024, I was honored to be a Tory Burch Foundation Fellow. That recognition came exactly when I needed it, right after I lost the person I was planning my future with. I would have rather stayed in bed. But when doubt creeps in like a dark cloud, having a whole foundation of women say, “Nope, keep going,” is an incredible lifeline.

Part of the fellowship included a trip to NYC, where Tory herself reminded us that those negative voices show up for everyone, at every level of success. The real work is not letting them win. I’m so grateful to be part of that community, and I admire Tory Burch for making history by investing in women business owners.

As the legendary Betty White once said (and yes, we put it on one of our favorite Clards®):
“Butterflies are like women. We may look pretty and delicate, but we can fly through a hurricane.”

These days, my sisters have stepped into the role of my biggest fans, reminding me that the bond between women is the ultimate support system. This month, let’s celebrate the women who continue to help clear the clouds.

For Your Bestie

She’s the one who stays on the phone when you’re flying through your own hurricane. Honor her with our Betty White Quote Clard®. It’s an eco-friendly greeting card made from sponge cloth that turns into two reusable, washable cleaning cloths. A little gift that says, “I see your strength.”

For Your Daughter

For the daughter working hard to build her own history, our Sheet Happens plant-based laundry detergent sheets are a fun, practical reminder that life happens… just clean it up. No plastic jugs, no mess, and one less thing to wrestle with for a woman figuring it all out.

For Your Mentor

For the woman who saw your potential before you did, send a Clard that says, “You’re a gift” (because you are)… or “Make Waves.”

This Women’s History Month, celebrate the women who shape your world with a small gift that keeps on giving.

I’m sorry for the loss of your incredible mother. Your words have inspired me to reach out to some great women in my life, and let them know how they have impacted me.
Thank you!
