Hello and Happy Earth Month!

4 Easy Tips to Help Anyone Celebrate Earth Day!

As we approach Earth Day, I wanted to share a few ideas that are near and dear to me to help you celebrate.

Did you know Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22nd 1970? It was organized by Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin, who was concerned about the impact of industrialization and pollution on the environment. Since then, Earth Day has become a global movement that promotes environmental awareness and action.

I am proud to share my Father (Carl Scholz) was appointed by then Gov. Gaylord Nelson to the Wisconsin Natural Resource Commission. My Dad was one of the plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed under the Clean Water Act that led to cleaning up the Fox River. They won the lawsuit in 1989, but the final dredging was done in 2021.

Appropriately, the theme for Earth Day 2023 is "Restore Our Earth". This year's theme highlights the importance of taking action at all levels, from individuals to businesses to governments. My Dad’s immeasurable list of conservation achievements are my inspiration and hope they inspire you too.

There are many ways that you can get involved to celebrate this month, on Earth Day, and everyday. Here are just a few ideas that my Dad was an avid proponent of:

Plant a tree Trees are important for the environment as they help to absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. Planting trees is easy, will be enjoyed for many years to come, and is a great way to help the environment. (The photo above is my Dad planting a tree in a suit and tie, of course.)

Reduce your energy consumption Turning off lights and electronics when not in use. se cold water for laundry, use machines and dishwashers only when full, and hang your clothes to dry. All help to reduce energy consumption and lower your carbon footprint.

Participate in a local cleanup Many communities organize cleanups of parks, beaches, and other public areas. Participating in a cleanup is a great way to make a difference in your community and enjoy the outdoors.

Support environmentally friendly businesses and organizations Look for businesses that prioritize sustainability with environmentally friendly products and practices.

I hope you are inspired to get involved and take action to protect our planet. Our collective efforts can make a difference and create a more sustainable future.

Thank you for your continued support.

Happy Spring,
